Who Is Eligible to Become a Naturalized U.S. Citizen?
Current Green Card holders living in the U.S. are generally eligible for citizenship after five years, but you must meet a number of requirements. If you are married to a U.S. citizen, you could be eligible after having had the green card after only three years. If you are married to a U.S. citizen who is being transferred abroad for employment by a U.S. company, the U.S. government, or certain international organizations, you may be eligible to file sooner.
Once you have met the time requirements, we will meet with you and go over your situation to determine if there is any reason why you may not be allowed to become a citizen. There are some circumstances, such as being convicted of certain crimes, that could keep you from becoming a citizen. However, there may be remedies to overcome those barriers.
